Current Issues in OUD: Fentanyl and Xylazine Update

As we continue to respond to the rapidly evolving opioid epidemic, this session will provide current state information on fentanyl and xylazine, which is now present in the Illinois drug supply. This session will be informed by the latest data on effective approaches to education, prevention, and treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD), incorporating the risks posed by fentanyl and xylazine. Issues that will be discussed are best practices based on currently available data, including: – Emerging evidence regarding initiating buprenorphine treatment in the era of fentanyl – Changes that are needed to address xylazine regarding harm reduction education, overdose, testing, and withdrawal management Presenter: Shannon Robinson, MD, Physician Principal, Health Management Associates This interactive training is intended for all stakeholders and partners interested in supporting improved access to medication assisted recovery in county jails, especially representatives of IL MAR learning collaborative county teams, including members of clinical, custody, and administrative teams who support MAR program design and implementation for justice-involved populations.
