Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) to Improve Risk Management and Outcomes for Justice-Involved Persons

Health Management Associates (HMA) is partnering with the Illinois
Department of Human Services Division of Substance Use Prevention
and Recovery (IDHS SUPR) to provide technical assistance and grants
to Illinois counties to implement Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR)
for persons with opioid use disorder in county jails and to support reentry. The program also focuses on bringing together community
supervision, courts, and community-based providers and
organizations for an effective county system of care. 22 counties are
currently participating, and enrollment is open and available to all
Illinois counties.
In this session, which is free and open to all interested persons,
the HMA team will provide a training about MAR for justice involved persons and facilitate a discussion on current
standards, challenges and opportunities related to MAR for OUD
and addressing methamphetamine use.

• The fundamentals of brain science in understanding
addiction
• What is MAR and how does it work?
• How does use of MAR reduce risk for jails and counties,
and improve outcomes for incarcerated persons?
In addition to learning about these topics, attendees will have
the opportunity to interact in facilitated discussion to share
challenges and solutions in meeting the needs of persons with
substance use disorders and justice-system involvement.
