Pulling Back the Curtain: Addressing Inequity in the Overdose Crisis

The purpose of the “Pulling Back the Curtain”: Addressing Inequity in the Overdose Crisis webinar is to increase awareness among prescribers in the current inequities that impact the outcomes of individuals living with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and how to address those inequities in practice. This 1.5-hour webinar session will be led by Rush Substance Use Disorder – Center of Excellence Director, Tanya Sorrell.

 

This training opportunity is funded by the Illinois Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (SUPR) to increase access to Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) in Illinois.

Learning Objectives.

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Explain opioid use disorder as a chronic illness
2. Summarize the history of racism and discrimination in SUD healthcare treatment in the United States
3. Discuss the inequities that impact individuals in recovery and/or living with OUD from a cultural perspective
4. Describe evidence-based harm reduction philosophies and principles in the treatment of OUD
