DESCRIPTION:One of the challenges of Medications in Treatment (MAT) is that clients and counselors often focus on the medication and lose the balance of full recovery. This M.D. level facilitated workshop will focus on how to use the evidence-based practices of motivational interviewing cognitive behavioral therapy\, and the trans-theoretical model of behavior change to broaden substance use disorder treatment beyond the “bio” (as in biopsychosocial) administration of the medication. It will help providers collaborate with clients to individualize substance use treatment and develop person-centered services that hold clients accountable and attract them to recovery.

The goal of the nine-month program is to increase access to opioid use disorder treatment services in downstate Illinois counties (i.e.\, outside of Chicago/Chicagoland) that currently have very limited or no access to medications for addiction treatment. [NOTE: If you practice in Chicago/Chicagoland\, please apply instead to Rush’s fellowship program here.] The training will provide clinical guidance\, technical support around the clinical workflows\, policies\, and protocols to ensure compliance with clinical standards\, and training in evidence-based practice. Each participant will receive a certificate\, approximately 30 hours of continuing education credits\, and up to $2000 in training reimbursement* upon full completion.\n\nFellowship Components Include:\n1. Participants will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and apply practical skills in the following areas: \nApproaching Your Work: Learn how to manage reactions related to suicide and maintain a collaborative\, non-adversarial stance. Acquire the necessary skills to address potential conflicts between a care professional’s goal to prevent suicide and relapse and a client’s goal to eliminate psychological pain via suicidal behavior. \nUnderstanding Suicide: Gain an understanding of the definitions and language used when talking about suicide\, as well as the data that are relevant to addressing suicide in substance use disorder treatment including risk and protective factors\, warning signs\, and the complicating factors of substance misuse\, including opioids. \nGathering Information: Identify key points in treatment where a suicide assessment should occur\, what questions to ask to learn more about a client’s suicidal thoughts and behaviors past and present\, and how to ask them. Participants will practice asking questions in an interactive learning environment designed to help build confidence. The training presents key scenarios\, such as when to seek supervision or consultation and what to do when someone discloses suicidal thoughts during a group treatment session. \nFormulating Risk: Practice synthesizing assessment information into a risk formulation that will help inform the next steps in treatment. AMSR emphasizes the importance of using a risk formulation not for prediction but as information to make a collaborative decision regarding recovery-oriented treatment planning. \nPlanning and Responding: Review suggested actions to take based on a risk formulation using resources from SAMHSA’s TIP 50 and evidence-based interventions. SUMMARY:Rush Interprofessional OUD ECHO Healthcare Team Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the Interprofessional OUD ECHO® program is to offer continued learning opportunities about the assessment and treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD) for healthcare teams that are already prescribing buprenorphine to patients in Illinois. This sixth-month program will be led by an interprofessional team of subject matter experts (providers\, social workers\, nurses\, and peer recovery coaches) who will help the healthcare team’s members better understand how to effectively work together to provide the highest quality of care to patients with OUD. This training opportunity is funded by the Illinois Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (SUPR) to increase access to Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) in Illinois. \n  \nWho Should Apply? \nTeams who apply must be comprised of at least one Illinois provider (i.e.\, Physician\, Advance Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant) who is already prescribing buprenorphine\, as well as at least one member from their support team who is not a provider (i.e.\, social worker\, peer recovery coach\, nurse\, medical assistant\, case manager\, pharmacist\, information tech\, receptionist\, etc.). The maximum team size is seven members. Eligible teams must commit to these three requirements: \n\nTeam members are expected to attend at least nine of the twelve twice-a-month ECHO® sessions on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays\, 12pm-1pm\n\nCohort 1 ECHO® Sessions: Starting 5/12/22 and ending 10/27/22. See the schedule here.\n\nCohort 1 ECHO® application deadline is 3/18/22.\n\n\nCohort 2 ECHO® Sessions: Starting 11/10/22 and ending 5/11/23. See the schedule here.\n\nCohort 2 ECHO® application deadline is 9/16/22.\n\n\n\n\nEach healthcare team must prepare a case of one of their patients and present it during one of the twelve ECHO® sessions. The team will be asked to develop key case questions so that they can receive constructive feedback from the other ECHO® participants and the subject matter expert team.\nDuring the twelve ECHO® sessions\, team members will be asked to work collaboratively via Zoom as they engage in didactics (15 minutes per session) and discuss challenging cases (45 minutes per session). Participants must have access to computers with video capabilities and stable internet connections. Given that this training is designed to be interactive\, participants must commit to turning on their computer’s video to ensure effective collaboration.\n\n  \nWhat Incentives Can Team Members Receive? \nEach participating team member can earn a training reimbursement of up to $600.* Team members can also earn up to 12 hours of CE or CME credit if they are eligible to earn such credit. \n  \n*Participants who attend less than six sessions will not receive any training reimbursement. Participants who attend six or more sessions will be paid a training reimbursement of $50 per session attended.
